Parent Survey: Sexual Education/Reproductive Health

February 4, 2019

Dear Western School District Parent,

The Western School District is in the process of reviewing the sexual education/reproductive health education program to better meet the needs of our students as well as the standards of our community. As a parent, you are the most important factor in the education of your student regarding this topic.

Today, young people often receive conflicting and powerful messages on television, movies, and social media about sexuality. Students need to learn skills that will protect them from the health risks associated with sexual behavior so they can grow up to be healthy, responsible adults. The school board, teachers and staff at the Western School District understands that this is a serious and sensitive subject. Along with our parents, we believe that this topic should be taught by committed, competent, caring professionals who will provide consistent instruction that is based on what students need, what parents and community will support and is consistent with research and best practice teaching methods.

Before any changes can be made to our current program, we need to hear your views. Please take a moment to fill out an online survey prior to March 1st, 2019. Please note that each question will briefly explain if the topic is currently being taught and at the level it is being taught. If you need assistance with the survey, please contact or visit any of our schools. Computers will also be available at the administration office.
